Damon L. Kinebrew- Banner

In Memory of

Damon L. Kinebrew

Damon Kinebrew dedicated his life to service, leadership, and community, leaving an enduring legacy that continues to inspire. He served his country with pride, first enlisting in the United States Army and later committing to a lifelong career in the Army National Guard, where he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. His distinguished military service included roles as Military Advisor to New York’s 6th and 10th Congressional Districts, Commander of the 1/15 New York Guard, and Headquarters Company Commander for the 42nd Infantry Division.

Beyond his military achievements, Damon was a passionate advocate for social justice and economic equality. Early in his career, he worked alongside trailblazers like Shirley Chisholm and Jesse Jackson to combat social inequalities, championing initiatives like equitable employment practices and fair lending policies. He was deeply involved in organizations such as Operation Breadbasket, Operation P.U.S.H., and the Rainbow Coalition. As a founder of the Bedford-Stuyvesant Jaycees chapter, the only Black-chartered Jaycee chapter in the nation, he continued to focus on civic engagement and community service.

Damon also made a significant impact in business and healthcare, tirelessly supporting minority-owned enterprises as President of Capital Formation Inc. and CEO of Capital Formation Management Corp. His testimony before Congress in 2009 on behalf of small and minority businesses underscored his lifelong commitment to creating opportunities for underserved communities.

A passionate golf enthusiast and community leader, Damon founded the Annual Invitational Golf Tournament with the prestigious COMUS Club of Brooklyn. His warmth, generosity, and commitment to others extended beyond formal roles. Whether giving a ride to a lost traveler or opening his home to an international guest, Damon embodied kindness and hospitality.

Damon was a lifetime member of the 369th Historical Society, a mentor in the Urban League’s Black Executive Exchange Program, and a recipient of recognition from the Black Veterans for Social Justice. His dedication, patience, and persistence made a lasting difference in the lives of veterans, families, and communities.

This remarkable life was cut short by Alzheimer’s, a disease that took an active organizer, leader, and friend to so many. Supporting Alzheimer’s New Jersey is a way to honor Damon’s legacy and help others impacted by this devastating illness. By contributing, you are ensuring that families and individuals facing Alzheimer’s receive the care, resources, and support they need, just as Damon spent his life ensuring others had opportunities to thrive.
