Helen Login- Banner

In Memory of

Helen Login

Our mom, Helen Login was born in Newark, NJ, and was an independent, highly intelligent lady with a sharp sense of humor. Like others of her generation, she learned to push ahead no matter what. She went to college at Rutgers, at a time when women often didn’t, and went on to get a Masters in Library Science, setting her up for a career as reference librarian at the Newark Public Library.

She paused her career when she met a loving salesman, Herbert Login, while they were both vacationing in the Catskills. Much like the Music Man, the salesman and librarian married, and built a life together, in West Caldwell, NJ. She went on to become a working mother as the reference librarian at the Millburn Public Library, and I’ll forever admire her for her achievements in life.

Helen and Herb had 2 daughters, Nancy and Joyce, and 3 beautiful grandchildren (James, Caroline, and Andrew) who are the children of Nancy and Robert Cole.

As an avid card player, one day she asked how many 3’s were in a deck of cards, signaling that something was drastically wrong. That started the long, difficult journey of her path through dementia where the biggest blessing was when she finally didn’t know what was going on. She passed at the age of 97, as even to the end she was her feisty self, never giving up.

Rest in peace with Herb, where we hope you’re together, solving the NY Times crossword puzzles (in pen!) and reading, reading, reading to your heart’s delight.
