Joan Gethard Burke

Joan was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2022, at the age of 84. She dedicated her life to education, inspiring generations of students through her passion for mathematics and learning. A lifelong educator in every sense of the word, Joan believed deeply in the power of education has to transform lives. Her commitment to learning never waned; at the age of 60, she proudly earned her Doctor of Education (EdD) degree from Seton Hall University, a milestone that reflected her determination, intellect, and love of scholarship. She taught college-level math until the age of 80.

Alzheimer’s shows no mercy. While we had excellent support and care for Joan, we know so many others do not and are going it alone. We want everyone who is caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s to have the help they need – as a natural caregiver, she would have wanted that.

All donations in tribute to Joan will be used for the Respite Care program, helping those who help loved ones with Alzheimer’s everyday
