Winston C. Sirjue- Banner

In Honor of

Winston C. Sirjue

Winston Churchill Sirjue, 80, of Somerset, NJ, passed away on Friday, April 15, 2024 after a nearly 7-year battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Winston was born on October 29, 1942 to Hubert Sirjue and Charlotte Bailey in Jamaica. He grew up in Danvers Pen, a rural district of St. Thomas parish. He emigrated to the US in the early 1960s and settled in the Bronx, NY. Winston began dating the love of his life, Doreen Crawlle when they found each other in New York after separately leaving Jamaica. They bought their first home together in Somerset, NJ in 1973 and were wedded 44 years ago on November 17, 1979 at Christ Church in New Brunswick. Winston established his small business, Windee’s Metal Industries, Inc. (cleverly named after his and Doreen’s first initials) in 1974 in his garage. He successfully grew the business and provided HVAC services to mostly commercial and some residential properties throughout the tri-state area.

Besides his family and friends, Winston’s favorite thing was music. He would get lost in record shops for hours, triumphantly returning home with rare vinyls to add to his collection. Every vehicle he owned had a subwoofer so he could “feel the music” through some heavy bass. If a song really “sweeted” him, he’d drive past the house and circle the neighborhood just to listen to it one more time. He sang and hummed everywhere – on the church choir, in the shower, walking down the hall. And he was always the first on the dance floor at every party.

He also loved food, learning, and traveling. He tried food from every restaurant in New Jersey and beyond! Portuguese, Indian, Peruvian, upscale, diner, or hole-in-the-wall, you name it, he tried them all. His passport was always getting stamped. He was determined to explore as much of the world as possible throughout his life. This led to trips around Europe, South America, and other parts of North America such as the Caribbean and Canada. He was a life-long learner and lover of technology, even though his cell phone sometimes drove him crazy. He loved the access to new things and information that the internet provided. All around, he was a kind, loving, gregarious, generous, curious, and outgoing man, from boyhood through his final days.

Winston was preceded in death by his parents Hubert Sirjue and Charlotte Bailey; his step mother, Vie, his siblings, Myrtle, Charles, and Vinnette; his former wife Enid (mother of his children Annette, Winston Jr., and Andrew), and his son Winston Jr.

He is survived by his wife Doreen; his children Jeanette, Annette (Paul), Andrew, and Thalia (Aaron); his daughter-in-law Tracey; his sisters Jean and Rose; his grandchildren Denise (Charles), F. Christopher, Darren, Melanie (Jason), Janea, Jour’danne, Yamanneh, Simone, and Amaya; and his great-grandchildren Micaela, Yoli, Cay’Torie, Eliah, Orlando, Kingston, Elijah, Shahada, and Titan; and a host of other family and dear friends.
